AIKIDO Class Schedule
Children Grades K-3
Children as young as five learn how to control their bodies and to train safely; they learn how to meditate and maintain focus; and they discover how to defend themselves while taking care of their attackers. We play lots of aikido-based games and turn many of the more technical practices into play patterns that thoroughly capture the young ones’ attention and fully engage their minds and bodies.
Parents are welcome to train with their children in the children’s classes!
Children Grades 4-8
Our older children delve much more deeply into the techniques of aikido. They also learn how to function under controlled but steadily increasing levels of pressure, culminating in practice with a group attack. As they improve and move up through the ranks, each student benefits from help and encouragement from their aikido senpai (seniors in the art), and also is expected to assist and set an example for their kohai (juniors in the art) who follow them.
Teens and Adults
Teens and adults of all ages and all levels of experience and ability train together to develop their own technique, flexibility, strength, and endurance. Becoming an aikidoist brings an experience of capability and confidence in the face of physical violence, a capacity that allows one to choose not to be violent if one wishes.
Aikido often feels like play or dance, since it incorporates healthy touch and social interaction. An added bonus of dedicated training is improved abilities coupled with a sense of being more fully alive in all aspects of one’s life.
