About Aikido of Georgia
Aikido of Georgia was founded (as Aikido Decatur) by Joel Riggs in January 2009. Aikido Decatur is part of Division 3 (Nadeau shihan, division head) of the California Aikido Association, an official member organization of the Aikikai Foundation led by Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu, grandson of the founder.
Location
Since February 2024, Aikido of Georgia meets at Guild & Journeyman, 115 Clairemont Ave., Decatur, GA. 30030.
PAST LOCATIONS:
From August 2023, Aikido of Georgia offered teen and adult classes at 619 E. College Ave., Suite A (downstairs), Decatur, GA 30030; the children’s program was paused.
From August 2022 through July 2023, Aikido Decatur (rebnamed Aikido of Georgia) resumed children’s classes as well as adult classes at the Atlanta Friends Meeting House (aka the Quaker Church) at 701 West Howard St. in Decatur, GA 30030.
From August 2021 to June 2022, the dojo was at 619 East College Ave. in Decatur, GA 30030, offering classes only for vaccinated adults.
From November 2010 to March 12, 2020 the dojo was at 104 Sycamore Place,Decatur, GA 30030. The dojo closed and moved out of its rented space due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and remained closed through July 2021.
From September 2009 to October 2010 the dojo was at the studio of Decatur Healing Arts (owned by Susan Johnson), 109-A New St., Decatur, GA 30030.
From January to August 2009 the dojo was at the studio of Several Dancers Core, 139 Sycamore St., Decatur, GA 30030.
